Annual Foundation School -III (2017) - Shillong - Selected Applicants

 General Instructions:
1. All selected candidates are required to confirm their participation on or before April 10, 2017, by sending the scanned copy to following e mail id  himadrinehu@gmail.com, angomtiken@gmail.com,
 anant.shastri@gmail.com, of their forward train journey tickets wherever applicable.
2. After the dead line is over, all the wait-listed candidates are also entitled to send their confirmation and the selection will be on first-cum-first serve basis of receiving confirmation.
3. All in all, no more than 40 candidates will be allowed.
4. All selected candidates will be accommodated at Old NEHU Guest House, NEHU campus. Lodging and boarding will be free of cost and restricted to the period, one day prior to the program to one day after the program.
5. No travel allowance is permissible.
6. Selection status will appear on the webpage, from time to time. No need to keep asking about it through email.

Pre-requisites for AFS-III:

All the selected candidates are requested to come prepared with the  following material:

 Algebra: 

Main reference book is Algebra by Artin, Prentice-Hall, 1991, 2003. 
 
 1. Elementary Group Theory, including finite abelian groups, Symmetric and Alternating groups S_n, A_n,  subgroups of S_3, S_4. (Minimum: All sections of Chapter 2 and Section 6 Chapter 6.)
 2. Rudiments of linear algebra, like Vector spaces over arbitrary fields and linear transformations. (Minimum: Sections 1-3 of Chapter 3, Sections 1-2 of Chapter 4.)
 3. Basics of rings, prime and maximal ideals, Euclidean domains, Pricipal Ideal Domains and Unique factorization Domains, Gauss Lemma, Eisenstein's irreducibility criterion etc. with special emphasis to integer and polynomial factorizations. (Minimum: Sections 1-7 of Chapter 10,  Sections 1-4 of Chapter 11.)
