This AIS will introduce participants to some aspects of statistical learning theory (SLT) which lies at the intersection of probability, statistics, computer science and optimization. Broadly, SLT studies the performance of statistical methods and algorithms for making predictions based on training data. In the first week of the AIS, we will start with some basics of linear algebra, analysis, probability, statistical theory (supervised and unsupervised learning) and Bayesian statistics. These topics will serve as a preparatory for more advanced topics to be discussed in the second half of the first week. In the second week of the AIS, we will then delve into more specialized topics like functional data analysis followed by Bayesian machine learning, distribution testing as well as online learning. All these topics are motivated from research topics on SLT, and we plan to take them forward in a future workshop.
