Linear algebraic groups are one of the basic objects for higher research these days. Any student aspiring to do research in algebraic geometry, representation theory or even number theory needs to have a fair amount of knowledge in linear algebraic groups. This AIS is aimed at training second and third-year graduate students in the basics of linear algebraic groups. More precisely, we will start with basic definitions and try to complete the classification of reductive groups over the field of complex numbers. Active researchers in other areas are also welcome to attend this programme. We will assume the knowledge of (affine or projective) varieties and morphisms over the field of complex numbers but will also brush over them quickly in a series of tutorials.
