The workshop is on numerical methods for hyperbolic PDE like those arising in fluid flow problems. Hyperbolic PDE generate wave-type solutions whose accurate and robust computation requires considerations not generally present when dealing with elliptic and parabolic problems. Moreover, nonlinear hyperbolic PDE admit solutions of limited regularity whose correct computation requires special methods based on conservation and wave propagation ideas. The workshop will introduce scalar and systems of hyperbolic conservation laws, and the construction and analysis of accurate and robust numerical schemes for such PDEs. High order methods are very essential in wave-type problems and we will discuss modern methods like WENO, discontinuous Galerkin and spectral methods for PDEs. There will be a strong computational component throughout the lectures and participants will be able to learn how to write programs for such methods. A few research seminars will be organized to be given by the speakers and other scientific visitors available during the workshop, either in person or in online mode.
Audience: PhD students pursuing research in applied mathematics and engineering. Master students doing project work in related areas may also be considered based on their prior knowledge and strong recommendation from their advisor.
