The study of Operator Algebras grew out of the work of John von Neumann, Israel Gelfand, and many others before the Second World War. In the 1970s and 1980s, Alain Connes started his influential study of Noncommutative Geometry; while, simultaneously, George Elliott and others introduced topological methods into the study of operator algebras through K-theory and its successors. Today, the study of operator algebras spans a vast amount of literature spanning mathematics and physics.

In this workshop, we shall study three fundamental areas of Operator Algebras, each of which is an important and involved field in its own right:

  1. Noncommutative Geometry
  2. K-theory
  3. Quantum Groups.

Each course will constitute some introductory lectures in the first week, while the second week will constitute more advanced material, and will reflect modern research trends within the subject.
Students in an advanced state of their PhD program, postdocs and young faculty members working in this or related fields will greatly benefit from this workshop.
